Banjo
Tony has been pushing the boundaries of three finger style banjo since he first started recording in the mid 70's. His early albums as a member of Country Cooking featured adventurous instrumental compositions and performances with fellow bandmates Pete Wernick, Russ Barrenbeg, Andy Statman and Matt Glaser among others. He has a number of solo projects on Rounder and two with his former band, Skyline.
He now performs an eclectic bluegrass / rock / jazz hybrid with The Tony Trischka Band as well as solo shows that feature bluegrass, old time and minstrel style banjo music. Tony did more than blaze the trail for banjo pioneers to come. He actually gave private banjo lessons to Bela Fleck while Bela was still in school!
