1999 was a very good year for Ronnie. He took home three awards from the IBMA Awards show (male vocalist, Song Of The Year, Gospel Recorded Event).

His second solo effort, "The Man I'm Trying To Be" on Sugar Hill, has been both a popular and critical success and Lonesome River Band is working steadily all over the country. Ronnie's name has been a perennial fixture among the IBMA Award finalists as both a vocalist and a songwriter, not to mention the many awards gathered up by LRB.

It is probably fair to call Ronnie the most influential male vocalist and songwriter in bluegrass music at the present time. Artists outside of bluegrass are starting to take notice as well. John Fogerty had Ronnie singing harmony on his most recent release and Bowman songs have been recorded by country artists such as Dan Seals and Lee Ann Womack.
